Environment and Conservation Fund

In taking stock of the development of the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) over the past some 30 years and mapping out the future direction, the ECF Committee believes that environmental protection and nature conservation starts with “Publicity and Education” - by raising our children’s awareness of environmental protection and the general public’s understanding of current environmental agendas as well as policy initiatives, we can achieve the first and important step towards securing support from the community to improve the quality of the environment.  Following by “Practice and Action”, the public’s aspiration for green living can be transformed into behavioural practices and living habits of individuals, and this is the second step in our pursuit of sustainable development.  Even with the support from the community and public participation, there would still be a need to address prevailing environmental and nature conservation problems through innovative solutions, and it is on the basis of the third step “Research and Development”.  The above three steps illustrate the major types of projects continuing to be carried out by eligible organisations under the funding support from the ECF in the coming years.

On account of the increasing public awareness of environmental protection and active participation and action in different aspects, as well as the focused research and development of innovative solutions conducive to promoting local sustainable development and moving towards carbon neutrality by more organisations and groups, the ECF Committee and its three vetting subcommittees continue striving to channel the efforts of different sectors of the community for taking forward the aforementioned three steps as well as aligning with the Government’s latest environmental policies and priority areas.

The ECF will continue to join hands with different sectors of the community in laying the groundwork for a green future and striving to achieve the vision of “Let’s Grow for Green”.
