Re ECF Project: ECF 2016-77

Project Title: 2nd Interdisciplinary Symposium on Ocean Acidification and Climate Change (2nd ISOACC)

Applicant: Dr. Vengatesen Thiyagarajan, School of Biological Sciences, The University of Hong Kong

Total Approved Grant: $247,200 or 70% of the total actual expenditure, whichever would be the less

Duration: 1/12/2016 to 31/5/2017

Project Status/Remarks: On-going

The Symposium aims to:

1. bring ecologists, economists, engineers and molecular biologists to refresh ongoing establish collaborations and to establish new synergy to effectively utilize variety of ecophysiology, material science and “omics” tools in coastal climate change studies.

2. discuss the idea of establishing an “Interdisciplinary Centre for Oyster Research (ICOR)” in Hong Kong with close collaboration with South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (Guangzhou) and Institute of Oceanology (Qingdao) to model the climate change impacts on oyster aquaculture.

3. develop a novel platform, to integrate the disciplines of developmental biology, ecophysiology, multiple OMICs and ecological modelling to identify which shellfish populations or species will have the acclimation or adaptive capacity to cope with multiple climate change stressors.

Summary of the Findings/Outcomes:
To be available upon completion of the project
