Project Title: Recycling tyre waste as a useful geo-material to enhance sustainability

Project Status/Remarks: On-going

The objectives of this project are:

1. to investigate the effects of rubber content, shape and size on the mechanical behavior of targeted local rubber-soil mixture at small, medium and large strain (critical state) by conducting drained triaxial compression tests, bender element tests, permeability tests and modified proctor tests.

2. to develop a constitutive model to capture the stress-strain behavior of rubber-soil mixture for field-scale numerical modelling.

3. to perform finite difference numerical simulations of key geotechnical engineering structures such as retaining walls, fill slopes, dams and embankments to demonstrate the performance of a new lightweight construction material.

4. to provide a guideline for engineers to make a correct choice of rubber content, size and shape for the design of rubber-soil mixture depending on the nature of the project.
