Project Status/Remarks: On-going

This project aims to convert sewage sludge ash (SSA) to synthetic zeolite which is suitable for producing warm mix asphalt (WMA), a sustainable paving material allowing lower asphalt pavement construction temperatures. Through comprehensive laboratory, in-plant and field study, this project will identify the optimum production conditions to synthetize SSA zeolite with the desired properties as a WMA additive, and assess the environmental and engineering performance of WMA with SSA zeolite. Upon the completion of this project, guidelines on producing SSA zeolite as a WMA additive as well as its associated quality requirement will be developed for asphalt suppliers and Highways Department to use.
