Summary of the Findings/Outcomes: The Conference was first held in September 1994 in Jamaica, followed by a second one in April 1997 in Malaysia. The Third International Conference on Environmental Chemistry and Geochemistry in the Tropics - GEOTROP '99 provided another forum for experts in various environmental specializations to explore freely and exchange ideas in the hope of better understanding of our physical surroundings and its relationship to our activities.

Over 120 international experts from 13 countries attended the Conference for experience sharing and academic exchange on the adverse impact on environment caused by economic development, as well as ways to achieve a balance between the two.
