Study of Indoor Particulate Level in Domestic Buildings

Project Title: Study of Indoor Particulate Level in Domestic Buildings

Applicant: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Total Approved Grant: $642,000

Duration: 01/01/99 to 31/12/00

Project Status/Remarks: Completed

Scope: To understand how various indoor and outdoor activities influence the indoor particulate level in domestic buildings. A thorough understanding of the aspects of the problem will help to develop means of mitigation in reducing the exposure of the population to airborne particulates. Source apportionment and detailed size distribution of the indoor particulate matter will be studied in this project in order to quantify the relative contribution of indoor and outdoor sources to the indoor particulate level.

Summary of the Findings/Outcomes:

  • Over 90 homes were visited in this study over the 2 years
  • Information on indoor airborne particulate characteristics in the residential buildings in Hong Kong was collected
  • Analyses have been carried out on the data collected
